When we walked into her kitchen, her table was covered with a book and tonnes and tonnes of photographs. No need to remind her not to let her photographs get lost on a computer! She was putting together her kids "books", something she's done for them since they were born. It wasn't fancy, just a book with plain white pages, photographs taped in and some writing about what was going on in the photograph and in their lives in general. But it was so beautiful and heartfelt and done with so much love.

Join me as I take one photo a week for the next year, each one capturing a specific aspect of our family life and my kid's childhood that I want remembered. You can read the introduction post here, an FAQ post here and all related posts here.In the second week of each month we're going to be capturing our family relationships.
Assignment 6: Photograph the sibling relationship(s) in your family.
That sounded really formal. What I mean is, photograph your kids together. If you have 2 kids it's easy. If you have more than two then either photograph them all together or photograph each of your children with one of their siblings.
And just to challenge you a bit... photograph them doing something they always do together. For mine it could be playing "peek" with the quilt my mom made Gracie, having a race around our kitchen island, holding hands when they walk on the trail behind our house or the daily dance party that happens when they both need to burn off some energy.

These two love each other so much. As soon as they're both awake in the morning and Gracie's had her morning bottle, they pull down all the blankets and pillows and dump the small box of toys we have up here and sit and play. This is so typically them - just needing to be close to each other while they play.
If you have one child, then this is a bonus week. Photograph them doing something they love. Or photograph them with their best bud who is just like a brother or a sister to them. Your choice.
Have a great Monday and link up below if you've posted yours somewhere!
Hi Jenn,
I'm Heather's sister, and when I saw Heather working on your photo assignment challenge I was so excited to sign up. I've been keeping up with your weekly assignments on my blog if you want to see what we're up to.
I finally got my photo posted for this, Jenn. Sorry I'm so behind on it. Too much to do and not enough time!

I think I take this same shot at least four times a week. it's not staged, they really do sit together and read like this every day. and the fact that they also pull out all the quilts first thing and throw them around the room makes me crazy.

getting ready for the first day of Salamander. I can see his nervousness at a new class and a new teacher in the way he's standing. he aced it.

running on the field beside the pool after swim lessons is his favourite thing. and today he picked me some dandelions to thank me.

and she likes to run on the field too.

sure I'll nap mama, if you just get out of my room and stop taking pictures.

he has a rest time every afternoon where he reads books while gracie naps. some days he asks if it's okay if he sleeps too.

this bread recipe rocks. I'll write about it soon.

a trip to the train museum to see the lego train on display.

the view in my rearview mirror.

daddy's home. high fives all around.

mysterious bloody toe. not sure how it happened but thank goodness for Spiderman band-aids.

snack time and book time. gracie is with me in the rocking chair having her evening bottle.

outside watering the plants.

ironing some clothes that have been lying around way too long so I can take them to the consignment store tomorrow.

crawling into bed. still need to write in my one line a day diary and then wind down with a book for a few minutes before we finally turn out the light.
Looking back I realize it kind of looks like it was the Angelo show all day today. Some days I download the card from my camera and find it's 90% photographs of Grace and 10% of Angelo, some days it's the reverse. Gracie is also getting over a cold so she wasn't her usual cheery mischievous self. No worries, tomorrow will likely be the Gracie show again.
This is my FAVORITE so far~ I love that you did this. I want to do it now, too. And I'm excited to hear more about your homemade bread!
Jenn, this is just amazing. I love this peek into your day and life. I really want to do this now too. So cool.
I LOVE LOVE this idea!!! I could spend all day enjoying my little glimpse into your life. Adorable kids and great shots!
I love this idea -- and your photos are amazing!!! Each hour is captured beautifully. I love how simple this is -- but composed artisticly! perfect!

You can read the introduction post here, an FAQ post here and all related posts here.Have you thought about what you're going to do with your photographs once we reach the end of our year in photos? The whole reason I wanted to do this project was so my family would have something tangible in our hands that showed what our life was like from the summer of 2011 to the summer of 2012.
I decided I'm going to do a 12"x12" album printed through my album supplier. It's just easier for me to go that route since I'm so familiar with working with them and the finished product is so gorgeous.
As I've been going through the month, I've been putting a copy of my images into a seperate folder labeled 'Our Year in Photos - July'. It makes it so much easier to see what I'm working with and put my pages together. I'm going to be doing my album layouts as I go along so it's not so overwhelming at the end of the year.

For this month I decided to do one layout of the weekly photographs and a second layout of my favourite photographs. Since the album is 12"x12" these photographs are going to be a good size.

Because my book is going to lay flat when opened, my photographs in the first layout go right across the spine of the book. Make sure you check how your book opens - if there's a spine like a traditional book you'll want to make sure your photographs are far enough away from the spine that you don't lose any of your image.
On their own, they aren't all the best most 'pefect' images of my family I've taken this month but I love how the randomness of them all on a page together really shows our life.
Let me know how you've decided to print your album!

The colors in thes portraits are fabulous! You did a great job capturing life and emotion in these - looks like they were having a great time! Love how your incorporated that large log - the mom and kids laughing shot is probably my favorite.
What a gorgeous family. Great colors! ! ! :))

Love the location. Wish we had places like that here.
